arts & crafts
Art: The Art of Bookmaking Learn the skills and tools necessary to construct a four-page folded book that is designed to be tied open creating a 3-D display or closed and tied shut like a personal journal. Once constructed, the pages of your book can be painted, drawn on, or collaged. You’ll learn to manipulate & intertwine words, phrases, lyrics and more with imagery to realize a strong personal, visual statement destined to be a distinctive handmade souvenir of your week at Camp.
Art: Block Printing This fun class utilizes easy-to-cut rubber blocks to create unique monochrome and two-color prints on paper. Learn how to make art prints or greeting cards using a relief block printing method where you can be as simple or detailed with the image and carving as you want. It’s all up to you!
Art: Concrete Teddy Bears Join us in the Art Barn as we execute, disembowel, and dissect stuffed animals and fill their tiny carcasses with cement. Get in touch with your inner Frankenstein and make a fun, adorably freakish ornament for your garden, home, or lawn.
Art: Figure Drawing Explore the magic of expressing yourself through drawing the human figure. Designed as an outlet of expression through drawing and not a measure of how well you can draw, the class will offer fun for the novice or advanced artist and will include instruction, a series of timed poses, and a little bit of gentle feedback.
Art: Oil Painting Let the Camp landscape be your inspiration as you utilize small canvases & oil paints to tap into your inner Monet. You’ll learn the oil painting process step by step, including the mixing of colors, underpainting, adding glazes, and scumbling. Though a great class for beginners, all skill levels are welcome. And no matter your skill level, you will have a Camp-inspired piece to take home with you by the end of class!
Art: Papermaking Convinced you haven’t a creative bone in your body? This fun class will prove you wrong. Learn how to turn found items – such as leaves, pieces of scrap paper, & old magazines – into unique pieces of paper that are works of art unto themselves. Or maybe you can use your creation in The Art of Bookmaking class or even for Camp’s traditional “Letter Home” at the end of the week. Whatever you decide, you’ll have an organic, earth-friendly, one-of-a-kind recycled piece of art to show all your friends back home.
Art: Sur/real Self-Portraits Want to create a personal souvenir of your week at ‘Camp’ Camp unlike any other? Well, in this introspective class, you’ll explore the self using 2D mixed media, collage, and acrylic paint to create a self portrait which combines the real and the surreal, compositing your outer and inner selves and expressing them on canvas.
